Letter to Church Congregation

updated August 29, 2020
Hello Advent Family,

When I reflect on this year, I recognize that although 2020 has brought a great deal of challenge, with God’s help we, at Advent, have met those challenges with steadfast faith. As we strive to love God, love each other, love our neighbors and love our communities well, Advent has served
as a lighthouse in uncharted waters.

We have continued to improve our weekly online worship experience thanks to both Cathy and John Thorla. Thanks to volunteers, pastors and staff, we have created a safe, in-person worship experience by using physical distancing, individual communion packets, one-way traffic flow and sanitizing between services. Sound and lighting improvements have also been made in the past several months that has enhanced our services for both the online and in-person worshipper. Our schools reopened on August 14th for the new school year thanks to our diligent staff and teachers who adapted to and implemented all the CDC standards necessary for in-person learning. Both new and returning students and families have adapted and are thriving. Advent Square continues, under Jo Taylor’s leadership, to set a high standard of care for our senior
residents despite the challenges and necessary precautions that are being taken to protect our most vulnerable. Advent Lantana has reopened for in-person worship and is growing. It has also become regular distribution point for Boca Helping Hands. Small groups are meeting safely in person and online and continue to create community.

That said, the Church Council believes it is prudent to bring back Advent’s Sunday morning fellowship time. Coffee and donuts will be served in a safe, appropriate manner after worship services on Sundays beginning September 6th. As always, your participation is a personal
decision that should always be based on your own comfort level.

Love is Why We Are Here!

Advent Church’s mission it to help families discover that we are loved by God, that we share that love with one another, and that we are on a mission of loving the world. It is this mission that drives everything we do.

Here at Advent, we have our roots in Lutheran tradition which emphasizes the power of God’s grace to change our lives. Advent has two locations to serve God’s people for midweek Bible studies and Sunday services, Advent Church Boca and Advent Church Lantana.
Advent Life Ministries, a mission of Advent Church, includes a Early Childhood preschool for children infants thru prekindergarten years. An Elementary and Middle school for students kindergarten thru eighth grade. Our Senior community home, Advent Square, for our aging parents, with individual apartments for those seniors that are still active and can take care of their daily needs and we have an Assisted Living Facility with Memory Care for those seniors that need extra care with their daily living needs. No matter what age or stage of life you are in, Advent is here to serve our Boca Raton and surrounding communities.
Advent Church is a “church without walls”, we are also involved in local outreach programs such as: Alzheimer’s Community Care, Boca Helping Hands, Family Promise, Food for the Poor. Our Global Mission programs include: Freedom Challenge, Good Shepherd Fold – Uganda, and Village of Hope & Medical Center in Haiti.
Advent believes in sharing the love of Christ with people of every age and stage of life. From infant care to senior living.
Come join us at Advent, to learn about God’s love for us and help to share that love with the world. Love is why we are here!
